Whether your current faucet is constantly leaking or you’re just ready for an updated and stylish faucet, you have a wide range of options to select from when getting a faucet replacement. That being said, you can’t just choose any faucet and hope it will fit with your sink. There are different kinds of faucets that will work depending on the sink you have. So, to determine what faucet you can get, you need to know some facts about your sink.

Things to Consider for Your Faucet Replacement

  • Sink configuration: There are two basic configurations for sinks: under-mounts and drop-ins. If the edge of your sink is below the countertop, then you have an under-mount sink, which means it is attached to the bottom of the counter. If your sink has a lip that sits over the counter, then you have a drop-in sink.
  • Holes: The next thing to determine for your faucet replacement is the number of holes that your sink has. These holes indicate how many holes your faucet can have and determine the number of spouts and handles. There is some leeway with this, though. You can add in plates or dispensers to cover up any extra holes.
  • Distance: The distance between the holes is another factor for your faucet replacement. Holes that are six inches or more apart require a “widespread” faucet. Any distances less than six inches will need a “centerset” faucet.
